"There's no problem calling me Nova, but for the sake of straying the eyes of a certain person who may hunt me... I'm Kaede. Believe it or not, calling me Kaede would not be a lie.", as the redhead answered his question, she pointed to her hair, as if saying "red like maple leaves".

Punny alias, based not only on the color of her hair but also on the second part of her three-part name. "Still looking for your own truth, Zamari Wells? Only you can tell yourself what it is, and nobody else. I'm one to say that, my search for the truth was... Hard... Painful... Sad..."

So this was the Nova that he had heard so much about. Well, Kaede now. Zamari didn't understand the exact reasoning by the name change but decided that it wouldn't delve too much into either. Whatever she wanted to call herself was what he would call her. "Kaede it is then." he had no qualms about it.

"Those words seem to correlate with truth all across the board." being a cynic, Zamari frequently used words such as hurt, pain, and sadness to describe the world at large. It wasn't the best way to look at things but he felt it was realistic. He rarely subjected himself to idealism mostly out of fear of being let down by the harsh realities of the world. "When I die my sword will basically absorb my soul." that was a blunt thing to say. "I won't get an afterlife. I guess that's a heavy truth to accept." wait. Why was he sharing that with her who he just got to officially know?

"So that's the kind of curse it is then, the one with the headband, eh?", Kaede thoughtfully tapped the shinai against the floor, "Crazy idea inbounds: in case you die, maybe try to have you be revived within five minutes. Five minutes is the absolute time limit for me to revive someone, any beyond that and my soul would possess their body. And I don't want to body-hop."

"So you know, I won't get an afterlife either. There's only two solutions to kill me: one completely erases all there is of me, the other just tears me in two and I will start to desperately absorb life to come back. The latter? I've faced before..."

"If it's over then its over." his soul getting trapped within the Inner World was unavoidable. "I'm human. If I don't get killed then my body will one day give out on me when I'm old, if I'm lucky to even get that honor." even if he did get revived at some point it would only be a case of delaying the inevitable. "I'm not a peace with it. Not at all. Probably never will be." when he saw that soldier crystallized in that cave it frightened him. Never would it be over. He was destined to be a prisoner to his own power.

Zamari pressed the back of his head against the wall behind them. "Maybe we should start a cursed club." again, he made his joke straight-faced and relaxed. On some level, it did seem like a good idea at least for a support group. Everyone would get together and whine about their curse before vowing to overcome them together. On second thought, the idea sounded awful.

"One way to answer to say is to live with it. Mom did live with her 'curse', seeing countless generations come and go, while she remained young. But she chose to make her 'curse' into a 'blessing'. If she can outlive others, she can comfort their successors and guide them.", while she still didn't show joy to such thought, there was no denying it brought her some peace of mind.

Only to then chuckle at his idea. "You know, for how wrong that sounds, it is actually a good idea! Maybe Cult Of Salvation? OverComing Curse As One? It wouldn't be a bad idea, for those believing themselves to be damned and seeking to be saved from an unbearable burden.", at least that amused her greatly.

Accepting his fate was not something that he wanted to do at all but it was necessary for his peace of mind. There were plenty of nights he sat up since learning this truth that he imagined ways to change what awaited him. When he realized that, at least for now, there was no such alternative he simply took himself to sleep. For now, he was alive and well so he should make the most of it.

Zamari was surprised that she actually liked the idea. "Sometimes it helps to share your pain." did talking to her help him? Yeah, it was nice to know that he wasn't the only one to have his chance at an afterlife taken from him. "What are the odds. Two cursed ones meeting in the dojo...." they were likely to run into each other at some point but still, he found it strange that they had such a commonality.

"That is true. You see, I was raised for a few months within a church, so I listened to the pain of people, and thought of using my ability to help them. This 'curse' that prevents death from overwhelming me, also has a 'blessing', as you learned that day: Healing. Ever seen someone regrow an arm overnight after a tragic accident at a factory? I did.", while it may seem odd for Kaede to smile at that... The reason was on the first few sentences.

At the mention of such coincidence, she shrugged and chuckled, following with a "Major coincidence, I am sure. Plus, I think you may have heard this before, but some things attracts one to another. The desire to heal someone's broken heart, to one whose heart has not seen happiness for years, for one. That is what got me to confess to Ezan. Couldn't bear seeing him force a smile, when I knew he was sad."

"No. I can't say I have." and he certainly did not want to see such a thing. It was remarkable that she had such a power. Healing was always good but what of swordsmanship. I was given the power to end lives and she was given the power to save them. however, the purpose of his powers did not necessarily have to be his own. Hitokiri Rinkoro. if he chose to take on that name then he would take on such a purpose. A manslayer was nothing more than a professional killer. The lack of restraint would allow him to take down his enemies but at what cost?

"Romance isn't really my cup of tea." while he doubted that was what she exactly meant in her following statement pertaining to Ezan, Zamari thought he would put that out there in hopes of receiving an example that was more applicable to his own forever alone life. He got it (or at least he thought he did). Boyfriends and girlfriends mended the wounded hearts of their significant others. His heart was fine enough on its own. "I guess it's good that you have that effect on him, though." that was him trying not to be too negative. If they were happy together then more power to them.

With a brief snicker, she agreed: "I can tell that you aren't the romantic type. Maybe you could try it with someone that isn't taken, who knows if you can succeed? I mean: I had no hope on myself, after all I was doing was filling for a gap."

"But yeah, it is a great thing I felt guilty for the countless lives I claimed as a rampaging beast, and as a punishment imposed upon myself to atone for my sins. That made me value life much more."
, and was that all for real or- "Maybe you have to find someone to fight for. If not romance, maybe for friendship."

Zamari thought about it for a split second and only that. He just couldn't see himself being in love. For one, he rarely ever smiled. Secondly, he couldn't recall ever once being attracted to anyone on the planet. "Maybe one day." that was the best answer he could give her for he was unsure about where exactly he stood on romance himself.

"I have a younger brother and sister." Zamari didn't speak much about his family. He called Chairo his friend and he couldn't remember ever once mentioning the fact that he wasn't an only child to him. "They're nothing like me. They have fun." and he wanted them to stay that way. At the very instant he put on the headband his childhood was cut short. He didn't want his siblings to go through that. "Part of the reason I moved to Japan was to protect my family from the trouble that the headband brings." it wouldn't be hard to tell what he meant by trouble. "Apparently this piece of cloth is highly coveted."

"You're done playing swordsman!"

Zamari could perfectly muster the image of his would be killer in his mind as it had stuck with him every day since that fateful night occurred. Tall, fair skinned with some wrinkles, narrow blue eyes, and slick silver hair. Augustin Silvestre was his name and he had been sent to get the Number One Headband by any means necessary.

"He let me live." Zamari's mouth was on autopilot. By the time he realized he had spoken it was too late.

Maybe one day... She worried for that and pouted a bit, chirping. Hearing of his brother and sister, Kaede thought if they might be okay... But did he imply he didn't have fun. "Pff, come on, as if you don't have your share of fun over here. You must enjoy it when you fight with Ezan, or when you are with someone else or doing something else.", giving a chuckle she responded to that.

Hearing him say those words, she knew a logical question would be "Who let you live?", or "Why did he let you live?". Instead of asking, she presented her thoughts: "Either he made a terrible mistake and will regret it later... Or he wanted you alive for a different reason. Think about it, you don't know exactly why. Plus, if he intended to hunt you later, he will have to rid of an entire academy of super OP students, some of which could kill him where he stands. *coughmyselfincludedcough*"

"I guess." in his eyes there wasn't a lot of time for fun. Yes, people his age tended to do fun things like play sports or hang out with friends but he wasn't an ordinary kid. To Zamari these high school years were best used to prepare for the future. As he expected a lot of fighting in his future, he spent most of his time training and studying. It was all about survival in the end. "Sparring against Ezan was more so work I'd say." those matches helped him gauged where he stood in his hand-to-hand combat. They kept him from getting rusty.

Now onto more touchy subject matter. Yes, Zamari understood that his would be killer and other pursuers would have a difficult time obtaining the headband if they targeted him while he attended Senki Academy. That was the reason why he came there in the first place, to deter their ambitions while he grew stronger. However, as he was the one at the wrong of Augustin's blade, he knew all too well that if he wanted him dead it would have happened.

"I shouldn't have ever brought that up." he stood up and started to walk away. "Pretend like I didn't say that."

He was not yet ready to deal with the truth that he was living on borrowed time.

"He didn't have the same sentiment. To put in his words, fighting against you is an enjoyable experience.", Kaede replied and, while Zamari would be absorbed in thought, she would get up and exercise some more, only to stop with the shinai near to Zamari's shoulder when he tried to walk away.

However it was with the tsuka facing him. "How about you get some practice in before you go? After all, you don't want to rely all the time on such curse to be able to use a sword. 100 slashes, no dummy required of course. What ya say?", it's not that she forgot what he said, she remembered of something he said EARLIER.

Zamari figured that Ezan enjoyed their sparring matches and they did carry worth to him on an enjoyment level as well. Still he looked at them as means for him to progress. He learned as he partook in the matches and that was what he valued most over "fun."

"I'll do my best." he stared at her blankly as he accepted the challenge, picking up his bokken. Akuratsufuu, Kamekara, Retsuka...Kiritsuno. all of their talk about curses made him think of the spirits he befriended. Was it really all that bad?

"I'll do with you, so you don't get bored.", and of course she would do the same gestures, at a safe distance, but not far from him. Kaede was a bit stiff in her gestures right now, however because she was not doing it her usual, preferred way, the deadly dance with swords that he witnessed earlier.

And they would continue so, until the count of a hundred slashes. At that point, she would ask: "So, what do you plan to do next? Where to from here?"

The training was, by Zamari's standards, not successful. His balancing issues persisted throughout the majority of the exercise though he managed to attain some sort of rhythm towards the end. Having her there alongside him gave a sort of a morale boost but at the same time reminded him that he was not as skilled as he initially thought. When they finished he was relieved and dissatisfied. On one hand, he desired to perform better while on the other he was glad to finally have his embarrassment be over.

Zamari put down the bokken before responding to her. "I've exercised my body so my mind is next." he was either going to study, meditate or read a book. While to others it would sound like a boring way to end a day but to him, it was all about self-development. If it wasn't helping him progress in some way then what was the point? "What do you have in mind for your evenings?" he didn't really want to know per say but he wanted to keep engaged with her.

"Is that so, ah? That's not a bad idea, usually I go the other way around: mind first, body next. And leave enough room to relax and do whatever. It's not good to keep pushing yourself too hard, nor too lightly. But I'm sure you know that much already.", taking the shinai back to the storage, Kaede had Zamari follow her.

What for? An idea of course: "Relax for the next two hours. Do something like play with animals, read an adventure book, watch something amusing. Me personally? I'll go visit Soosei and check out the hot spring."

"Oh, you know them too," Zamari almost stumbled and referred to Soosei as she, the gender they took on when he first encountered them bathing in the river. It was one of his most awkward moments and one that he looked forward to putting behind him. Meeting Soosei, on the other hand, was interesting, to say the least. All of these people are connected how was it that he kept running into them? Was this fate at work.

"That an invitation?" he asked with uncertainty. If she wanted him to tag along she needed him to be a bit more direct than that. He was the kind to easily drop the ball on such a thing. Then he realized how what he just said didn't exactly come out as intended. "I mean to see Soosei." he hoped that he saved himself just in time to escape further awkwardness.

"Of course I do! They're a child of Byakko! One of their MANY children actually. Most of them related to them in soul, that is. We met several times already, they ask me for some of my feathers sometimes.", Kaede explained how she knew of Soosei.

Zamari taking that as an invitation was a surprise that made her stop to consider for a moment. "If you say so, why not? Would be a good way to get your daily dose of relaxation, plus you can get your dose of meditation with them too.", it wasn't a bad idea at all...

Zamari shrugged. "I'm open to it." while he was keen on getting back to his room and settling in with a good book, he imagined that checking up on Soosei wouldn't hurt either. He hadn't seen them since he first met them and he wondered how they were doing with their shack in the woods.

Zamari put the bokken away and grabbed his backpack. "Off to the mountain anyway then." he always found his way there one way or another. It was his favorite place on the island. The peace he found there was different than any other. The sounds of insects buzzing, birds chirping, and the wind blowing through the trees. Mother nature at its finest. There was no better place for him to relax.

"Great meeting you, Kaede," Zamari said to her as he headed for the dojo's exit. "Wouldn't mind seeing you and here again." she and Ezan were probably the only two he didn't mind sharing a training spot with. They didn't impede his concentration, unlike others.
