Name: Soujiro Akiyama Gender: Male Age: 32 Height: 5'8'' Weight: 170 lbs Appearance: ![]() Occupation: Owner of Sky Finance/Owner of Elise Residency: Penthouse suite located in the Downtown district Personality: Akiyama is a carefree and kind character seemingly always ready to help people in need. This makes it easier for him to gain friends throughout Kaneshima. Although he is a loan shark, he tends to push for low interest and collateral from his clients to the chagrin of the Rengoku Clan members above his head. To account for this, he gives unique tests to his clients before he loans them money. He even sometimes helps them accomplish their tasks. He wishes to test them, based on his past experience as a banker-turned-homeless man, to see if they are willing to work hard and do whatever it takes to get the money they need. However, he will not hesitate to turn down his clients, no matter how miserable their situation is, if they failed his test, though he does sometimes give them second chances. Despite this kind and understanding nature, Akiyama has come from the top of the world to the very bottom and then clawed his way back up again. When the situation calls for it, he can become a very harsh callous individual befitting of his various yakuza-related ties. Though he would prefer to run his loan company with more altruistic motives, he understands one cannot so easily walk away from the Rengoku Clan and to some degree still feels indebted to Goro for saving his life. Akiyama is also known for his laziness. He often sleeps on his couch while customers are not around, and leaves his office in a total mess, usually letting it reach a pretty awful state before finally cleaning things up. Akiyama is also somewhat forgetful even sometimes forgetting to lock up at his office before leaving. Without anybody working under him to cover his irresponsibility, he tends to keep poor hours which frustrates some customers to suddenly find his loan office closed when it should be open. His self-professed bad habit is smoking. Being an owner of a hostess club, Akiyama is very knowledgeable on matters such as fashion and women. He is always giving advice to his hostesses on how to provide excellent services for the customers, as well as directions on their appearances in order to match what the customers want. He has also helped several men win hearts of women by giving them useful insights and fashion advice to make them more attractive to women. He is also viciously protective of those who work for him going to any lengths to punish those who might cause trouble at the club or harass the women working there. History: Born in the mid-1980's, Soujiro Akiyama was considered a golden boy when he was younger, one of the privileged youth who would aspire to do great things. He entered Tokyo University and graduated with top honors and a business degree at the head of his class. His talents were sought after by a man named Iwai, the head of a rather prestigious bank's investment branch, who offered Akiyama a position which he accepted. Akiyama quickly became the top bank employee in the investment department. He rose up in the ranks, and even started dating one of his fellow employees named Mirei and was eventually engaged. He had always considered himself an oddly lucky individual and to many jealous onlookers, it seemed that the man could do no wrong as every situation seemed to always turn in his favor. Spoiler: click to toggle However, disaster struck roughly two years ago when he was fired from his job with charges of "Internal Theft" after it was discovered that one million yen was deposited into his savings account. The bank determined that he had stolen the money. The money was, in fact, part of a laundering scheme carried out by one of the more prominent Yakuza clans that populated Tokyo. In fact, it was Iwai, the very person who had originally scouted him, who sold out Akiyama having planned the whole thing from the start. Although Akiyama was innocent, there was no way for him to win a political battle against a powerful bank corporation. His boss was also very thorough in the plot to frame Akiyama, destroying all traces of his involvement. Akiyama spent all of his life savings trying to prove himself innocent. As a result, he became homeless, and his fiancee left him and married a new up and comer to the bank who had been jockeying for Akiyama's place. Desperate, dreams crushed and all alone Soujiro Akiyama began drifting from city to city doing his best to grind out an existence and fighting to survive. Spoiler: click to toggle These were hard times and Akiyama had to do many things he would not be proud to admit today. Many nights, sleeping in abandoned alleys or empty streets and lost in despair, he questioned whether it was worth it to even go on. In time, Akiyama's travels brought him to the city of Hyakuji and it was here, ironically, that his luck would change. The city, and by extension the world, was gripped by the threat of an invasive force known only as Link Joker. But when living day to day itself was a challenge all its own, such conflicts on a much greater and cosmic scale seemed somehow distant. But as the world teetered on the very edge of collapse, Soujiro Akiyama would find his salvation. During the final battle, as Hyakuji became swept up in conflict, Soujiro Akiyama was among the many fleeing for safety. While he had a sharp mind, unusual luck and some skill in taekwondo given practical experience due to a life on the streets, in the end, he was really only an exceptional but still normal person. Amid the chaos, Akiyama happened to be in a small group in the downtown area just as the fury of battle caused an explosion in several surrounding buildings. A certain skyscraper, coincidentally, happened to be one of the few remaining holdings in the city of the Wo Shing Society; a vicious international crime syndicate. Spoiler: click to toggle As if his luck had kicked into overdrive, Akiyama was surprised to see limitless numbers of paper bills raining down from the upper floors. Spoiler: click to toggle Seeing it as some sign from the heavens at a second chance in life, should the world itself survive, Akiyama joined the mob that had begun gathering up the yen and fighting over it. Akiyama grabbed up as much money as he could, ironically obtaining one million yen; the same amount he had been accused of stealing. But he very nearly lost it along his life moments later. Moving beyond the scene to a nearby alleyway, Akiyama was jumped by several low ranking members of the Wo Shing Society that had been returning to their base of operations only to see the events unfold. Akiyama fought desperately but was hopelessly outnumbered. But his luck was not done, a man named Goro Rengoku intervened moments later gunning down Akiyama's aggressors. He was a young man only in his early 20's but was already established within the Rengoku Clan due to his status as the grandson of one of the Clan heads. Working together, the two were able to survive the insanity of that day and eventually forged a strong bond of friendship between one another. Akiyama himself felt eternally indebted to Goro for saving his life and securing his shot at a future. And as the world built itself back up, so too did Akiyama. Spoiler: click to toggle Akiyama was a genius when it came to investment and finance, and he knew that the money he got would never be able to bring him the means to start a decent business. Thus, he started investing his money in order to build it up. Investing in Day Trading, he went for trades that provided supply to demand, rather than silver bullet deals, and slowly built back his fortune. When he amassed enough money, he began expanding on that ideal and started looking into opening his own finance company with the hope to offer loans to people as a means of reaching their dream; much as his fortunate windfall had restored his own life. Though only a year had passed, Akiyama finally felt as though he had crawled up from the despair that had consumed him. However, he felt ever indebted to Goro Rengoku for all that he had done. Having kept in contact all this time, Goro spoke of the island city Kaneshima and the fact that their Clan had now set their sights more directly there as a means of building up power. Since Akiyama had always been insistent on repaying Goro, those higher in the Clan saw fit to take advantage of his skills by having him manage several properties on their behalf. Moving to Kaneshima, Akiyama was set up initially as the manager of a hostess club in the seedier part of the city known as Elise. In short order, he made a lot of effort to turn around its image and gain a classier reputation for the establishment. Spoiler: click to toggle After this initial success, he was backed by the Rengoku Clan to open his own credit company called Sky Finance. Initially, Akiyama wanted to realize his goal and treat this as a more charitable company loaning money to fund people's dreams; gauging clients on their desire to succeed. However, the reality of the world once more crushed down upon Soujiro Akiyama. Spoiler: click to toggle Despite Goro's kindness, Akiyama was now in with the Rengoku Clan. Though Goro was the grandson of one of the Clan heads, he was still too young to carry much clout and had thus been relegated to one of the many sub-groups at the bottom of the chain serving a rather sinister man named Ichimoto. All this in the hopes that Goro would one day earn his spot at the top by both deed and blood. Ultimately, Ichimoto called the shots and the best Akiyama could do was try to keep the collateral and interest low on those who took loans with the company. This is a point of constant strain for his relationship with those besides Goro within the group. Though he had built back up from nothing, once more Akiyama found himself at the mercy of the yakuza and their schemes. One does not so easily walk away, especially after becoming so heavily involved as Akiyama has. Thus, for the time being, he can only forge ahead as best he can while trying to navigate the complex nature of the criminal underworld and keep his head treading above the depths.
