It was a late Sunday morning. Cloudy, with a chance of a drizzle in the afternoon, according to the weather report.

"Buongiorno, signore!"

A certain couple felt too lazy to cook any breakfast after getting out of bed that day. So the two of them decided to eat out instead.

"Buonasera, signorina!"

The couple picked a certain nondescript small cafe in the middle of the town. Someplace that seemed quiet and affordable enough for them to have breakfast in peace.

"Buonanotte, signor! Uh... Come stai?"

Relative peace, at least.

Ever since the couple had gotten out of the house, Seth had been spouting some odd foreign language at random people the whole way here. Even now, after they had arrived at the cafe and their food had been served, he had been calling up to anyone who walks past their table.

“… Seth, why are you speaking Italian?” Sophia casually stirred her coffee as she stared at her boyfriend awkwardly spoke the aforementioned language to random people that passed by them. It was amusing to see him fumble around with the words, but she was also impressed that he was doing pretty well. Seems like he had been practicing without her knowing. “Are you planning a trip to Italy or something? I could introduce you to my family if you want~”

Eh? "Wait, no way no way, that's way too scary," Almost immediately he denied her assumption, waving his hand in front of him quite dismissively.

Though he didn't quite directly oppose it.

Besides, overseas tickets there cost so much lately.

"I just thought I wanted to have a little bit more skills I can use," He explained why he suddenly decided to speak a foreign language, taking out a small notebook from his coat pocket. "Wouldn't it be useful to be able to speak to many different people from all over the world?"

Although, why Italian as his first choice, "Well that-... I dunno. You're from there, and it's your mother tongue, so..." Something something, mumbled the young man, though quite honestly he couldn't quite put his finger on the exact reason.

He wanted to impress his girlfriend. And probably see if he could connect to that Italian side of hers. "...Though self-learning is kind of hard..."

Pitter patters could be heard outside, as little droplets of rain began to fall from the sky.

“Si potrebbe avere appena mi ha chiesto.” Sophia leaned in for a kiss on Seth’s cheek. He didn’t quite want to admit it, but she could tell he was doing it for her. “That means you could have asked me, by the way.” It was the least she could do if he was going that far for her. Though knowing him, he might just be stubborn enough to want to do it all by himself.

In which case she’ll probably pull his ear until he let her teach him.

“We can start lessons whenever, but we had some chores to take care of too, didn’t we?” As lazy as they might be today, some things just couldn’t be put off. There was something else Sophia was looking forward to though. “A new pet shop opened up nearby too, so I’d like to give that a visit as well.”

There was a glint in her eyes as she said that. If she had a tail it would most certainly be wagging in excitement. “Only if we have time though. I know we might not after we’re all done.” And if she had puppy ears they’d definitely be drooping with that last bit.

"I wanted it to be a surprise~" Not much of a surprise if he openly showed it off just now. Of course, he read that the best way to get better at learning a new language is to force oneself to use it. Surprise or not, Sophia would be his best chance at learning Italian.

So he probably wasn't opposed to her teaching him when she mentioned it. That was probably his intent all along.

...Even if his reasoning was a bit roundabout. "...A pet shop?" Seth put off his little Italian handbook aside as he stabbed a piece of waffle with a fork and took a bite out of it. Cold, a little bit on the dry side, though that was his own fault for letting it sit untouched on his plate for too long.

His chewing kind of slowed down staring at Sophia who seemed quite expectantly excited of the idea of a pet store.

She's so cute. He even reached out to pet his girlfriend on the head like she actually was a cute little puppy.

Brava ragazza~

...Ah, wait. "Well okay, but just to look around, okay?" The young man set up a condition before she could start getting any ideas in case they do go there later. Sophia can get a little carried away when it comes to cute things, especially when they're big and can be hugged. Fluffy too, ideally.

Just like that Sophia’s (metaphorical) tail started wagging on full throttle. “Okay~ Non posso aspettare~” She started chowing down her breakfast at record pace, clearly eager to get going. While she might have agreed to just looking, who knew what she would do once she was in front of all the fluffy fuzzy animals.

Well, what’s the worst that could happen?

~

A little while later the couple arrived at the shopping centre, though they hadn’t reached the destination for their first chore yet. Why? Ask the young woman who has her face pressed up against the pet store window, staring at a pair of puppies eagerly pawing at the glass between them and her.

Whether by accident or design, Seth and Sophia had wound up passing by the pet shop first. The result was as expected. Any thoughts of chores disappeared from Sophia’s mind as she stared longingly at the two adorable creatures.

And this is just the pet shop window. What happens if she gets inside?

That was quick.

For a moment he wondered where she had gone. He only found out she had gotten left behind because she was stuck at the pet store they just passed by.

Like, Sophia was pretty much glued there, staring at the two curious little puppies in the store. "...Uh. What about chores...?" He attempted a reminder under his breath, though not really actually trying to get her to move.

He feels like the lady wouldn't budge until she gets a hand on the puppies at least once.

Oh, fine. "I... think we can move our schedules around a little bit," The young man said out loud, with just enough hint in his voice to allow his girlfriend a little peek inside the store, should she want it.

No sooner than the words left Seth’s mouth did Sophia fly into the store. If there was enough space she probably would have literally done that. A moment later she was on the other side, holding up the puppies in her hands as it licked at her face and hands. The other puppy on the other hand, had crawled up onto her lap and was vying for the same affection its littermate was getting.

Naturally Sophia was quick to oblige, but she wasn’t about to forget about the first, or her boyfriend for that matter (even though she sort of did when she first saw the puppies). Hugging the two against her chest, she got to her feet and headed out to meet Seth. She would have left the store if the shopkeeper didn’t stop her, so instead she beckoned for him to come inside. “Look at these two! Aren’t they just the cutest?”

The two golden retriever pups stared at Seth with literal puppy eyes as they started cuddling up against Sophia. In response the girl hugged them tighter, giving them kisses on the top of their heads. They sure are friendly with her, or maybe puppies are just filled with love and cuteness.

This is probably the girliest side of Sophia that he's ever seen. Sure, she might've gotten carried away sometimes squealing over and chasing terrified stray cats to pet them before, or talking to other people's dogs through house fences.

Nothing that flipped her switch like this one had, though.

It kind of worried him a little bit. Mainly because... "Um... R-right, they are..." ...she probably wouldn't want to let them go now.

A bunch high pitched squeals behind him made him jump, followed by the feeling of little pinpricks climbing up his leg. When he looked back and down, he only then realized three little kittens were climbing up his leg.

Any apprehension Seth showed went unnoticed by Sophia as she immediately turned her attention to the puppies in her arms as soon as she showed them to him. What did get her attention was the mewling that came from behind her boyfriend.

This was one of those times where she wished she had more arms.

Unfortunately if wishes were fishes everyone would be swimming in riches. So instead she did the next best thing and put a puppy on her head, the other on her shoulder, and tried to pick up as many of the kittens as possible. In the end it was an amusing sight of Sophia trying to cuddle with all the animals while balancing them all on her body, making cooing noises the whole time.

Well... he couldn't deny that it was a very adorable and funny scene. I mean, just look at her trying to cling and cuddle and pet and play with all the kittens and puppies and giving all of them her love at the same time-

"Your missus seems to be a natural with animals~"

Seth jumped with a horrified yelp from the ghost of a person speaking behind him.

It was just the store owner, as Seth would soon enough learn in relief. He was an old small man in his fifties, his face wrinkled, though pointed, giving him the appearance of a fox. He had a thin pencil mustache, thin slanted eyes, thin and wide mouth...

The guy looks suspiciously suspicious. Like he's going to con them at every possible second or something.

Before Seth could say or do anything other than stare suspiciously at him however, the store owner had already shifted his attention towards Sophia, who seemed to be quite in her own meowing and borking fluffy cuddling heaven. "Oh, good day, miss!" The store owner greeted Sophia with his most sweet business smile. "How are you liking our fine little collections~?"

...Is he really talking about the animals like they're products?

Then again, though...

“I love them!” Sophia’s reply was instant; she didn’t even question where the shop keeper came from. Then again it wasn’t exactly a surprised that a shop would be manned. “How old are they? They’re so small and cute! And do you have any other dogs and cats?”

As much as she loved puppies and kittens, she loved large dogs even more. If the store had any of those… Say goodbye to whatever plans they had for that day. Heck, they might even be leaving with one.

Did their apartment even allow pets?

"Oh, we have lots! Many breeds too, you can find which one you like!" The shopkeeper was more than eager to entertain Sophia's request, beckoning the woman to follow him further into the store. "All the little ones are no more than a year old, so they can last for a long time,"

And Seth was left behind in worry. "...Um. Wait, but chores..."

They won't be doing any now.

As they went further into the store and into a separate room behind a glass door, Sophia would be greeted with a sight that may just cause her to squee to high heaven.

Cats and dogs everywhere in a large and spacious open room, big boys and small girls, fluffy and skinny, many different breeds imaginable rolling and playing around with themselves being all happy and healthy and cute and stuff.

Sophia took one look at the room of cats and dogs, opened her mouth, and…

Disappeared.

Well, not entirely. She left a handful of feathers in her place. The shopkeeper wouldn’t have to worry about clean up though, as they disintegrated into light once they touched the ground.

“SQUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEE~~~!!!♥”

The extremely girly squeal came from within the room where Sophia was nuzzling up against a Golden Retriever. Apparently she couldn’t wait the few seconds to walk inside and just teleported in.

What about chores?

She didn’t even hear Seth.

All the other animals in the room jumped in shock at the sudden appearance of a strange squealing stranger that suddenly appeared in the middle of the room, while very quickly backing away from her and staring at her warily as she had caught one of their brethren.

The golden retriever now trapped in her hug either didn't mind the young woman or was too dumbfounded to really react to her at all. Or it was just dumb considering the dumb smiling pant on its face.

"Aah, yes, you have good eyes, very good!" The beady-eyed shopkeeper nodded as he also followed Sophia into the room, followed soon after by a dejected looking Seth. "Finest breed, that one. Very well trained since she was tiny, with only the best treatment like royalty!" The shopkeeper was certainly doing his best to upsell his products, rubbing his hands together with hopeful expectation. "She looks happy with you too, yes,"

More like the dog seems like it's happy at any time of the day.

Sophia was too engrossed with hugging and snuggling the golden lab to notice the other animals’ reactions to her. As long as the doggo in her arms wasn’t running away, she was happy. Well, even if it tried to get away there was no way she was going to let it leave her embrace.

Finally she stopped snuggling the doggo (even though she was still hugging it tightly and resting her chin on its head), and looked at the shopkeeper. “She’s a great dog, but do you have anything bigger? Like a warg?”

…What makes her think that a regular pet store in a mall would have something like a warg was anyone’s guess. Or any other pet store for that matter. What normal store keeps giant mythical wolves anyways?

"...Eh?" The store owner blinked at Sophia's request. "A... 'wagyu'...?"

No, not the cow. A 'warg'. "...Ah, e-excuse me for moment...!" The beady-eyed shopkeeper nervously backed away, though not for very far as he only stopped right next to Seth.

"...What is 'warg'...?" He whispered his question to the young man. With the only answer he got is a look of cluelessness.

"Why are you asking me?" Seth replied with incredulity.

For a general clarification, a warg is a wolf of Nordic mythology. Something that Seth would soon after find out with a quick search on the Internet.

But as of now he still doesn't really know what is a warg either, so instead he told the shopkeeper, "Just... just get her the biggest dog you have or something," He added, shooing the shopkeeper away to deal with his potential customer himself.

Big dog... big dog big dog. The shopkeeper kept the advice in mind as he marched around the room for the biggest dog he could see. Which really wouldn't be hard if only the dogs weren't scurrying away quickly every time he tries to approach them. "Err... how about that one-?!" He gave up trying to catch up with them, instead just pointing at a nervous-looking spotted Great Dane where all the other smaller dogs and cats are hiding behind at a corner.

Still holding the silly golden lab in her arms, Sophia looked towards the Great Dane. While it certainly was a big dog, it was nowhere near as big as a warg, which can be as big as a large bear when fully grown. Probably bigger. And they are much more muscular than the nervous looking Great Dane. If that’s the biggest dog the store had, then there was no way they’d have a warg here.

As the disappointment set in, Sophia began to notice the animals around her. They were all hiding from her, cowering as far away as possible. Only the golden lab with the dumb smile wasn’t afraid of her, and that might only be because it was too dumb to know what was going on.

… Maybe she had come on too strongly.

And just like that the magic was gone. Sophia ruffled the doggo’s head affectionately one last time before letting it go and rose to her feet. “Thanks, but I don’t think you have what I’m looking for. You do have some fine animals though.” Giving the shop keeper a quick bow and left the area, walking out of the enclosed area instead of teleporting out. “Come on Seth, let’s go.”

...Why did she even expect to find a warg in a pet store? The one who's probably the most disappointed here has got to be the store owner. Dejected, more like, seeing as he was unable to snag a big profit for himself. "O-oh, oh no! W-wait, I have dogs! Big pretty dogs, they like you!" The beady-eyed store owner did his best and desperate attempt to keep Sophia from leaving, shoving dogs after dogs up to her from behind.

Although, they were keeping as much distance away from the store owner as they were Sophia that he had no success ever getting close to them.

And thus, Seth and Sophia were outside, leaving the pet store behind. It wasn't raining as much as Seth had thought it would be, only little droplets and drizzle pattering the walkway. "...I guess we might still have time to do some chores after all," The young man shrugged with a sigh. Who knows, maybe they should actually finish their chores lest the rain gets chomp.

...Chomp?

Rains don't go chomp. Do they?

It came from underneath. So Seth looked down at his feet.

There was a dog. A small terrier, no taller than Seth's knee. Long snout, with fur that looked disheveled and dirty as though it hadn't had a shower in ages.

It was also wearing a collar.

And chomping on Seth's leg.

“Hmm?” Sophia looked down at where Seth was staring to see the dog chewing on her boyfriend’s leg. It was a scruffy looking thing, shaggy and dirty. She did think that if it got a nice bath and some food it might be a pretty cute thing though. Strange that it was so dishevelled though, it had a collar so it should have an owner.

… But more importantly…

“Mm… could you let go of his leg please?” The young woman crouched down next to the little thing, watching it. “Are you hungry? Why don’t you come with us? I think we can stop by a store and buy you something.”

It was just like her to offer to feed a random dog they just passed on the road. Right after it bit her boyfriend too.
