| Name: | Lavender Smith | | Lad or Lass: | I'm a lass | | Age: | Don't ask! :t | | Height: | 176 centimetres, or roughly 5' 9" for those living on the other side of the Atlantic | | Weight: | You're hurting my feelings with that question | | Occupation: | SERAPH Agent | | Residency: | -CLASSIFIED- |
Appearance Description Casual outfit and expressionsCasual outfit and more expressionsAngelan Cosplay Caster Cosplay Rider Cosplay Dress Uniform Relaxedwear (She's a cosplay freak) Lavender is... a thing of mystery. Sporting long hair that is naturally a shade of lavender purple, emerald-green eyes and a slender and delicate elven features and build, including elongated pointy ears. Even Lavender herself has no idea how she looked like that - whether this was a genetic side-effect of being an Esper, or that one of her parents is elven. (She had no idea who her mother is, and her father, a Willpower Faculty Esper, spoke next to nothing of her save that she is one of the Others) When she isn't cosplaying, Lavender tends to go for more sensible attire that are both comfortable and stylish (and a tendency to incorporate the color purple into her wardrobe), favoring billowing dresses or blouses and skirts that aren't too ornamental or risque, as well as occasional jeans and either a tank top or T-shirt. When scouting for potential Espers or Others to be recruited into Project OASIS (SEED Institute, GLADIUS Corps, etc.) Lavender possesses a special talisman that allows her to project an illusion that makes her appear more normal, hiding her elf-like features. |

Carefree and hyper, Lavender is a bubbling fountain of optimism and enthusiasm with an immense enjoyment of life and a love for anime, sweet snacks and all things purple. She strongly believes that life isn't a life well-lived without enjoying it well, and as such she does her best to make sure her friends and close associates are happy - from lending a listening ear to their problems, or buying them a meal when they're short on money.
Beneath her sunny facade lies a more reserved individual that still bears the emotional scars from her tormented past. Filled with uncertainty and self-doubt, this side of Lavender is constantly haunted by fears of losing the ones she cared about, and a fatalistic outlook that no matter what she does, it is inevitable that death and loss will always result from her intervention, that when disaster strike there is no averting a tragedy as if it were predestined by forces beyond the control of man - or even Others for that matter. This side of her personality tends to surface when subjected to levels of duress beyond what she can take, or having suffered a cataclysmic failure such as being unable to prevent the death of a friend or large number of innocents.
| | ++Personal History++ |
Pre-Hyakuji Born at the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland to one Nicholas Smith, Lavender knew she was different from the other kids even before her E'S abilities surfaced or learning of her father's ability as an Esper from the Faculty of Willpower. It was certainly hard to miss her, being the only kid in town who was born with natural lavender purple hair. The only memory Lavender possessed of her mother was the name given to her, 'Lavender', aptly named so due to her hair color at birth. Although questions about her mother have nagged at the girl every now and then, for the most part she had a fairly normal childhood under her father's single parentage, with the man taking on a heavy burden of balancing his long working hours and spending time with his daughter.
Lavender's powers as an Esper first surfaced at the age of nine, when faced with a gang of rowdy school mates who had decided to be mean to the girl due to her elven appearance. Amid the harsh remarks, taunts, shoves and kicks something within her snapped as Lavender lashed out with her first ever manifestation of E'S abilities - with her Aeromancy being the first to surface, using her Aero Whip technique for the very first time, throwing her oppressors about the school yard, injuring them, with one of the boys being sufficiently hurt as to require hospitalization. Confused and frightened, Lavender ran home to her father, although that did not help matters any as later in the night an angry mob surrounded their home, intent on vengeance. Lavender's father displayed his abilities as an Esper that night, keeping the angry mob at bay with his telekinetic shields until the police arrived with a riot squad to break up the mob. But by then it had become clear to both father and daughter that neither of them are wanted in town.
It was three days later that Lavender and her father were contacted by an agent from Project OASIS - apparently tipped off by one of their more kindly neighbors and informed the organization of their plight. Arrangements were subsequently made for Lavender to be taken to the SEED Institute, where she was put under the tutelage of the then-instructor Eiji Sawatari, better known within the ranks of Project OASIS by his call sign, "Achilles". In the meantime, her father moved to greener pastures in Ireland, where the two of them continued to maintain contact by e-mail and long-distance calls. Under the tutelage of the SEED instructors, Lavender proved to be a talented student, quickly developing on her Aeromancy techniques, such as her Saber Gust and later her Gale Hammer. Her potential as a good student in both academic subjects and the development of her powers forged a close relationship between her and Achilles, who in turn put her in a positive light in the eyes of the founding trio, who looked up to the budding Esper.
Good things unfortunately did not last long, barely a couple of years had passed when she learned the tragic news of her father's death, who was apparently killed by a bomb planted by the IRA while taking a subway train back home after work, along with a large number of commuters. Although the encouragements of Achilles and the Big Three helped her to tide over her loss and face life with renewed confidence and vigor, beneath the surface the scars left behind from the incident could never be fully healed, and it would continue to plague her for years afterwards. In 1999, tragedy struck once more when Munchausen, one of the Big Three expressed conflicting ideals and turned against Project OASIS, in which Lavender was among the few who barely escaped the SEED Institute's destruction with her life. This incident only served to deepen her emotional scars - given her close relationship with Munchausen, how could she have not seen it coming with the way the man's demeanor had changed over the years and the innuendos in his words during private conversations together? When Project OASIS disbanded shortly in the wake of the tragic incident, Lavender would move to Japan with Achilles, as one of the students privately tutored by him. It was at this point she came to learn she possessed not only her abilities as an Aeromancer, (leading to her being originally classified under the Faculty of Sensors) but she had also inherited her father's Willpower Faculty abilities, being able to produce telekinetic shields and levitate - this led to her being reclassified as a "Hybrid", one who possesses powers from two or more faculties.
When Project OASIS was founded for a second time in 2003, she would found herself and Achilles being contacted by Dr. Möbius and WTB and invited to rejoin the organization, an offer which they both accepted gladly, although when they once again received assignments to the new SEED Institute, Lavender would find herself a new instructor, educating a new generation of Espers and Others in academic subjects and realizing their E'S potential. Due to her conduct and talent, Lavender was approached by the board of directors in the OASIS Foundation (the central administration in Project OASIS that directs all of the organization's branches including GLADIUS and SEED Institute) to take up leadership in GLADIUS, a role that she has taken up along with her position as an instructor and a talent scout for OASIS.
Hyakuji High School In recent times, Lavender faced what could possibly be GLADIUS' strangest (and with the most cosmic implications) case to date, in the form of the crew of a transdimensional express train known as the DenLiner, where she finds herself along with her OASIS colleague and subordinate, Eliza Scott, dragged into an invisible war against a race of entities known as the Anino, beings not unlike the Heartless who devastated Hyakuji, or in fact, based on the accounts of one renegade Anino by the name of Otoha Kagura, may very well be related to them. Together with her colleagues in GLADIUS, Lavender eventually ended the Anino threat to her universe, only to learn that the Anino were mere echoes, heralds to an even greater threat, The Heartless. Eager to know all she can about this danger, Lavender joined up with Liz after the latter made contact with yet another rogue Anino named Eve, and together with Aisia boarded the DenLiner in search of the source of this new threat. How things will go from here on, only time will tell.
Lavender quickly met up with survivors of Hyakuji's destruction - children who studied in the high school. Attending a survivors' gathering in a hotel in Traverse Town, Lavender was acquainted with Jameson B. Willicott, who proposed Neo-Arcadia, with Lavender taking up leadership of the organization. When the Heartless threat was eventually ended and the multiverse returned to its original state, Lavender opted to be put on reserve status in the ranks of the OASIS Foundation. Abdicating her position as GLADIUS field commander and SEED Institute instructor, having grown fond of this world due to her friendship ties with its students; for now, after her fellow GLADIUS colleagues returned home, she decided to stay in Hyakuji to learn more about the world and its people, enjoying life as always and engaging in some heroic acts every now and then to protect her friends and beloved new home.
While teaching at Hyakuji High, partly thanks to her contributions to running Arcadia in Hiro's absence Lavender would subsequently be invited to join the ranks of Arcadia as a Prime, and would serve as the organisation's second-in-command, whether taking on the shared responsibilities of leading a second team out in the field, or directly running the organisation in Hiro's absence. But for the most part, her experiences teaching at Hyakuji High and running Arcadia reminded her a lot of home, and it was a role that she settled comfortably into.
Joining SERAPH In the aftermath of the Link Joker invasion, not much was known about Lavender's whereabouts after The Void was defeated, it was known that shortly after witnessing the graduation of her students, Lavender herself would approach Headmistress Hitagawa to turn in her resignation letter, and since then maintained little contact with her former students or old colleagues - not even Arcadia - where almost at the same time as her resignation as a teacher at Hyakuji High, Lavender would also announce that she would be stepping down as Arcadia's co-Prime.
For about a year after that, none of Lavender's former students or colleagues would receive news of her whereabouts, although rumours and speculations were abound - some claimed that she'd returned to Nova Oasis, hitching a ride with the retreating Link Joker forces and using their dimension-traveling capabilities to return back to her home realm. Others claimed they'd seen her in Bhutan, teaching English to primary school children. Though the truth was something only Lavender herself knows, and she wasn't around to either prove nor disprove any of the rumours.
The truth would eventually come to light recently, in an email that was circulated around SERAPH's organisational intranet, welcoming a certain Lavender Smith as the organisation's new field commander. At the moment however, no word has gotten out on where Lavender would be assigned, other than the knowledge that she would be directing SERAPH's operations out in the field. Rumours has it, that she was going to be posted to Kaneshima to oversee the assembly of the local SERAPH support cell, but with rumours being well, rumours, who knows?

Aeromancy As an aeromancer, Lavender's area of expertise is the ability to control the element of air - as an experienced aeromancer, her ability to command air by displacing, shaping, compressing or decompressing it allows her to accomplish a number of feats.
- Aerowhip: Carefully-controlled currents of fast-moving compressed air that act as snaring tendrils; essentially a basic form air-based telekinesis, capable of restraining opponents or knocking them back - great for catching hold of things and moving stuff about, but not particularly useful as a fighting ability. Frequent use and practice with her aerowhip has evolved the technique into something akin to telekinesis, where in addition to being used to catch and restrain opponents, Lavender has refined the use of her aerowhip to the point of being able to perform hands-free operation of devices such as opening doors, picking up small objects or even operating weaponry such as firearms.
- Saber Gust: A highly-compressed blast of air that slices into the targets it hits, primarily designed to deliver damage. Traveling at supersonic speeds and exerting a pressure in excess of several thousand PSI at its point of impact, the Saber Gust slices into (and sometimes through) targets as if it were a blade of steel. Naturally, the closer the target is, the more damaging it is. By spreading out the blast, Lavender can instead project scores of wind shurikens, which are far less damaging but more effective for crowd control/enemy suppression.
- Gale Hammer: A burst of high-velocity wind that slams into everything within its path with a blunt impact, primarily used for crowd control. Being less focused than a Saber Gust it deals far less damage, but has a wider area of effect. Can either be focused into a narrow stream, which is effectively a concussion blast capable of even breaking through stone walls at maximum output, to a wide angle gale force that merely stuns targets by knocking them down, or sending them flying into nearby walls and objects.
- Zephyr Dance: Drawing inspiration from Chizu's style of aeromancy, Lavender had also learned to use aeromancy as a means of augmenting her own physical abilities, such as using controlled bursts of wind to increase her movement speed and leap over inhuman distances, manipulating air currents around her limbs to enhance strength, and creating pockets of compressed air around her hands and feet to add more power behind her unarmed strikes as she releases them explosively upon contact, creating an explosive shockwave with every blow.
- Wind Sense: Frequent practice with aeromancy has created a side-effect, and left Lavender with the innate ability to be highly-sensitive towards changes in ambient air pressure, be it the wing beats of a mosquito, to the shock waves of a supersonic aircraft, Lavender is capable of sensing differences in air pressure around her. In practice it acts as a motion sensor of sorts, alerting her to potentially "dangerous" actions around her, while not entirely foolproof, it does however provide some form of advance warning to the aeromancer, making it more difficult to spring a surprise attack on her.
- Plasma Barrage: A breakthrough in a new technique that Lavender has been practicing with for a long time. Simply put, the ability to generate and control plasma via extreme compression of air at high speeds, the resulting pressure creating sufficient heat to cause the gases in the surrounding air to achieve and ionized state and become plasma, which manifests as superheated blue-white orbs that resemble ball lightning. Extremely unstable, the plasma is used as a devastating explosive attack that is launched at enemies, resulting what could best be described as a scaled-down version of a fuel-air explosive, creating massive thermobaric damage over a wide area. While powerful, its sheer destructive ability tends to make it impractical for use in situations where collateral damage is a concern. Also, it takes a longer time to compress air into plasma compared to her usual "solid" air, and requires 20 seconds (2 posts) of concentration to create her plasma attack. A far weaker version is also possible, but still requires one entire post doing nothing but compressing air to prepare.
- Snap-Assault Radiation: While mastering the plasma barrage was considered by Lavender to be a personal breakthrough in aeromancy on her part, there were many issues with the technique that left much to be desired. Namely the long charge-up time and its propensity for massive amounts of collateral damage made it a largely impractical weapon. Further practice and experimentation with aeromancy-generated plasma has allowed Lavender to develop a technique known as "Snap-Assault Radiation", formerly a signature move used by a rogue Esper from Nova Oasis. Rather than spending time to create large amounts of plasma, Lavender has decided that rapidly creating small pockets of exploding plasma (each no larger than a .45 ACP bullet) would serve to be a far more practical technique. The Snap-Assault Radiation involves firing a bullet-sized bolt of plasma from the fingertips, typically in a finger gun pose, which upon impact with a target will create a small explosion of concussive force that knocks down and stuns targets, along with a release of electromagnetic radiation that stimulates sensations of intense pain in the target's nerves, making it a handy technique for nonlethal takedowns or distractions, essentially producing effects not unlike a Pulsed Energy Projectile. The explosion creates a loud noise akin to a snapping or cracking noise not unlike that of a gun going off, hence the name.
- Invisible Air: By surrounding herself in a pocket of heated air, Lavender is able to make use of the air's refractive properties to diffuse and redirect light to conceal herself from view. Note that this ability, in spite of its name is actually less of "invisibility" but more of an adaptive camouflage that allows her to seamlessly blend into her background by diffusing and redirecting light rays away from her, such that only the background can be seen. As such, Lavender needs to remain still for the camouflage to work perfectly. Slow movement such as walking will cause her to appear as a rippling outline as the camouflage tries to "readjust" itself to the change in background, while breaking into a run will cause it to fail entirely. As with all forms of optical concealment, Lavender can still be traced by enhanced hearing or smell, or via technological or magical means of detecting unseen intruders such as thermal vision or magical true seeing.
- Freak Squall: For the longest time, one of the largest weaknesses to Lavender's aeromancer was that she had to rely on limb movements to direct the winds that she controls, much like a conductor in an orchestral performance - sweeps of her arms for slicing gusts of razor wind, punches and palms strikes for concussive blasts, and such. In situations where her limb mobility is limited due to either injury or restraints, Lavender would find her ability to use her aeromancy severely limited. Another additional weakness is that opponents who have some familiarity with the aeromancer would also discover the movements also serve to telegraph Lavender's attacks, allowing them to better anticipate and evade and/or counter her moves. With practice however, Lavender is now able to execute her aeromancy moves with little to no need for somatic gestures, making it harder to anticipate her moves as well as removing the old weakness of being rendered unable to use her aeromancy in the event her limb movements are restricted.
Force Manipulation Force Shield: Channeling her E'S Energy to telekinesis, Lavender can create a shield of telekinetic energy to defend against incoming attacks, which manifests itself as a translucent sphere of violet light with swirling white particles orbiting it. The shield stops physical and energy attacks equally well, although sufficiently powerful blows of any type will breach its defenses. The downside to it is that moving and attacking while the shield is up is impossible, and a cooldown period of 30 seconds (3 posts) is required every time the ability is used.
Levitation: Lavender possesses the ability of telekinetic flight, more of a hovering ability than flight, actually - having no means of propulsion. So far, the only use she has for this ability is for circumventing walls and fences, as well as to control her fall when jumping or falling off high places. Combined with masterful usage of aeromancy, Lavender has developed this into true flight. Maximum range, speed and service ceiling of her flight is dependent on how long and to what extent that she can maintain her power usage.
| | ++Inventory and Equipment++ | Orichalcum Talisman: By channeling her E'S Energy into the Orichalcum talisman, Lavender can create a projection of sorts that makes others perceive her differently. Only slight changes are allowed - hair, face, and minor alterations to the physique, with major changes like radical physique changes, appearing as a different gender or a clothing change being beyond her ability. This disguise requires only a bare minimum amount of energy and can be maintained indefinitely as long as she is conscious. Those with sufficiently strong willpower are not fooled and can see through the disguise, especially if they are aware of this ability.
The Mentor's Stone: A mysterious piece of amethyst discovered by Project OASIS, a curious artifact with the power to respond to E'S energy, this stone emanates light in the vicinity of entities with supernatural powers, indicating their presence. Entrusted in Lavender's care by Dr. Möbius, this is Lavender's primary tool in searching for Others and Espers with exceptional potential. The stone possesses other properties that Lavender is at present unaware of.
Primary Weapon H&K MP7A2: Ever since her service with SERAPH began, Lavender has her request for an update to her equipment granted; and SERAPH has issued her with a new MP7A2 PDW in black finish. Lavender prefers to accessorise her weapon with a NcSTAR vertical foregrip with a built-in flashlight and green laser sight mounted on the bottom rail of its triple-rail handguard, and a Aimpoint Micro T-2 dot sight mounted on the upper receiver's rail.
Secondary Weapon H&K P2000: Likewise, at her request SERAPH has also issued Lavender with a newer sidearm, having traded in her old 9mm USP Compact for a H&K P2000, chambered for .40 S&W rounds and accessorised with a Viridian Tech C5L-R flashlight and red laser sight.
Cosplay Watch: A gift from Nickle during Christmas, besides telling the time, this watch has the ability to allow Lavender to instantly switch into any outfit stored in its database, and new outfits can be uploaded into its database by image-capture. Note that all outfit changes are merely cosplay outfits, so consequently provide no special properties such as armor or environmental protection.
CHOIR augmented reality headset: Resembles a stylish pair of sunglasses, it serves as a Google Glass-esque AR display that allows him to access CHOIR's various features. However, as Lavender lacks the WatchMe implant she is incapable of utilising the full extent of its tactical features, effectively reducing the device to little more than a wearable smartphone for her.
