STILL ALIVE

Name: Seto "Seth" Ryouga
Gender: Male
Age: 20

Height: 180cm
Weight: 70kg
Appearance:
Go away old man

Occupation: VeNM-KC Security Sector Officer, Part-time Private Investigator

Residency:
Plato Building

Personality:
He was a blank slate. He is still a blank slate.

Many often joke about him being a grumpy old man with a penchant for angry yelling, and they would be half-right. Seth's demeanor often make him seem like he's twice his actual age. He doesn't quite yell as much as he used to, though he still retains his short temper, which these days would often translate to silent fury instead.

While not as naive or innocent as he used to be, he is still quite the strong idealist. While he knew he couldn't force his ideals onto others, it never meant that he would give it up himself.

A self-sacrificing idiot.

And a hypocrite as well.

At least he still has the youthful playfulness more fitting for his age, even if he doesn't show it as openly as others would. And a little bit... often, very mischievous, if he's presented with the chance, he would never fail to be tempted.

At least, those parts of him would likely never change.

Notes:

  • Has little tolerance for the cold.
  • Hot chocolate is his go to drink, regardless of the weather.
  • Very good at household chores, especially cooking.
  • Has a number of useful connections to important people, most of which were his friends back in high school.
  • Working knowledge of firearms and knows how to operate them, but doesn't actually own any himself.
  • Can ride a bike, but also doesn't actually own one himself.
  • Can play a piano, still doesn't own one.
  • Doesn't seem to follow any known belief or religion, though he does participate in Shinto practices.
  • Really wishes he could make up with a certain shrine maiden.
  • Very possessive of Sophia Antistita.

History:
For the most part of his childhood, Seto Ryouga had been no more prominent than just yet another faceless gray bystander meant only to fill the empty gaps between people who actually matter. In fact, the only person who did matter enough to give a little color to his life was his little sister, Sena.

But that's her part of the story, not his. Mostly anyway.

Suppose it would not hurt to provide a little insight on his background. He was born in a particulary well-off middle-class family, living in a high class mansion unit in the middle of Tokyo. Mentioning that however, the family did not particularly have very much in the way of materialistic ownership.

Not in the home where Seth and Sena lived in anyway, the place was quite minimalistic, if not almost barren save for the necessary furnitures needed for a home to be considered 'fully-furnished'. Aside from what the two siblings might have kept in their own rooms, the rest of the house was about as empty as the time when their parents bought the place.

The home was even missing their parents, seeing as they were always out on a 'business trip', almost never being home aside from the holidays or the rare three days vacation before going out again.

So most of his earlier childhood consisted of only himself and his sister. Until that is, one day something, or someone else invaded his life.

As far as he could recall, and deduced to be the most likely cause, was the time when he dumbly decided to follow his curiosity and a shady looking man in black into a detour. The next thing he knew he woke up on a bench at the nearby park with a slight pain in his chest.

He wasn't sure if he should be grateful or disappointed that he came out of whatever he got himself into relatively unschathed. He mulled over the little adventure of his for the next few days, before completely forgetting about it in the following few weeks. Nothing really unusual happened, except for a few small things.

First, he's hearing voices in his head.

Then he found out his body became superhuman.

Next he was told he's probably going to die in a few years time because his body was invaded by an artificial virus meant to kill anything it infects in a set amount of time. By the voice in his head. Which turned out to be the virus itself.

It was a lot of sudden turn of events that pretty much told him that he probably needs help.

He didn't exactly miss much leaving Tokyo to be honest. In fact, the only regret that he had was leaving behind his little sister to practically live by herself.

His destination ended up being a quiet little city in the middle of a mountainous forest up north of Japan, named Hyakuji. It's famous for it's particularly quirky little high school aptly named Hyakuji High, one of many schools in the whole world dedicated to taking in and tutoring young generations with special powers, skills or ability.

While he doesn't really consider himself to be particularly gifted, he technically fits the bill so he thought this place might be able to help him. Somehow.

During his time in Hyakuji though, he was introduced and went through many other different sort of situations, events, troubles and scenario that had nothing to do with what he came there for. He took jobs, stopped crimes and found mentors that he would afterwards follow in their footsteps. He participated in school activities, flunked tests and exams, won many different sporting events and fought against a rival neighbouring school in a super robot to defend his own school after a contest of pride went wrong. He went to many different places including France, Italy, London, Olympus, Valhalla, the Netherworld and even outer space in a far off future and back again. He's made many friends, and an equally many enemies, with some ending up as friends. He's even found love, and have learned to accept losses of important ones to him and continue to live on.

It's kind of impressive how so much could happen in just three years. It would be easier to just say he's gone through and learned a lot to make him who he is today.

In the same vein though, he is still the same Seth as he was when he was fifteen years old.

He ended up staying in Hyakuji High for the entirety of his high school year, until he graduated after saving the world one last time. He only just realized then, Hyakuji High never really did any graduation ceremony the whole time he was there, and wondered if it was the first time the school had done so since it's opening.

Nevertheless, it felt nice. Everything that had happened at that school, he would definitely miss it. It was, however, time to move on. Closing one chapter of his life, only to open yet another one after.

It's been just under two years since Seth graduated high school. While the money he gets renting out an apartment he kind of inherited from one of his mentor was enough for him live with comfortably, he ended up taking a part-time position as a security officer for a company one of his friend's established. In the meantime, he wanted to move on from Hyakuji to a new place.

That being Kaneshima, a small, practically isolated island on the other side of Japan. At least, it was small and isolated until a particular project had been going on the island since a few years ago. Namely to establish the island as a new, all-encompassing school to take in, train and educate new generations of youngsters with special powers or abilities.

Seth just wanted to be a part of the story, really. So he decided to rent a place there and dragged his now-girlfriend Sophia Antistita with him.

He seems to be missing something. Forgetting something. Though he couldn't quite put a finger on it.

Powers and Abilities:

Soul of a Drifter ~ Stained Glass Window
A blank slate. A colorless canvas, while being neither white nor black. The very definition of a person with no future, only a history while living in the present.

A soul with no meaning to their existence. But one which can be easily attuned and melded according to its surrounding, more so than any others.

By itself, it has no reason to exist. Not even Seth himself is aware of the oddity of his soul, as he considers everything that has happened due to it, simply happened.

A person is nothing by themselves. Life experiences, forming decisions and encountering conflicts, meeting new people, forming relationships or even breaking them, are what defines someone who they are.

The oddity of Seth's soul allowed such definition to extend further than just his demeanor and his personality. A powerful spirit that allows him to perform feats that could be considered supernatural, in a way that seemed very natural to himself, simply by willing for it to happen.

Unrivalled Spirit of a Man ~ The Tapped and Untapped Human Potential
A fairly simple ability. As could be easily observed, the young man seems to naturally have an unnaturally great amount of physical prowess, far beyond the extreme biological limit of the human body. He was considered by his peers to be unmatched in terms of pure physical capability, easily surpassing many others with superhuman traits, or those of supernatural nature.

It's hard to say if he's a fighter, a warrior, or even a berserker. To put it simply, he is just... incredibly strong, in every way possible. In a way that such adjective is synonymous with the name Seth Ryouga for anyone that knows him.

The extent and range of his strength is highly reliant on the strength of his will, as such it is impossible to accurately pinpoint the limit of his ability. It has been shown that the ability does indeed have a limit though. As it relies on his willpower, very long, drawn-out conflict would often end up overpowering him. Anything that would damage his spirit would in turn harm his capability.

That being said, his spirit is also incredibly strong. It would be wise not to assume any kind of cheap spiritual tricks would work against him.

He does however, admits of his severe incompatibility with the realms of magic. More specifically, the part where their practitioners alter the rules and laws of nature to perform their bidding. While he might be able to match them in direct close quarter confrontation, he would often lose the upper hand against true weaver of rules. Not to mention he himself is incapable of performing magic, but that isn't too much of a loss.

The original catalyst for this ability had been forgotten in time. Though, he wouldn't forget them as the unlucky coincidence that ended up changing his life from a gray bystander, to the person he is now.

The Half-Ghost with a Home ~ Youma Kotoka
The soul of a forgotten warrior from the long gone past, brought back to the world as an anomaly by way of a flawed perverted ritual, defying the natural cycle of life and death, before being sealed off from the world once again, for a very long time.

The lost half ghost and half human was once again released, this time into a modern world of concrete jungles and steel carriages. As a nameless wanderer, she then met Seth Ryouga.

Youma Kotoka, was the name she gave him.

Since their first meeting, a long time have passed and now she could be considered as his closest, most trusted and loyal companion.

Though she has no actual recollection of being one, Youma herself possesses great mastery over swords. Her style of swordsmanship isn't what could be recognizable, and seemed to be highly unorthodox. The kind of style that many true swordsman would scorn her for. That being said, for the most part none would be able to see her swords leave their sheaths in the first place before they struck their target. Her athletic ability is undoubtedly superhuman, and while her small frame doesn't carry much in terms of raw strength, she makes up for it with incredible speed and reaction time.

Her nature being an anomaly stuck between life and death gave her a few odd traits. For one, her body is that of a normal human. She can be harmed and injured, but none of it would seem to stick for very long. The nature of souls is that they are incredibly resilient, capable of withstanding even the worst of physical abuse. She is also quite sensitive to various levels of spiritual interference, though to say she would be vulnerable to them would be a mistake.

Such effects were present before and they are still present for her now, but it seemed to be visibly milder than before. Any wounds she takes now take longer to heal. Earlier assumptions on her being ageless and immortal due to her being an anomaly had now turned false, as she had grown quite a bit lately, seeming no different than a teenage girl having a growth spurt. While she didn't use to require food, water or any basic necessities to live, now she actually needs to have proper meals in order to be a functioning human being rather than simply for the indulgence.

She had long since served as Seth's weapon and aide during his time in Hyakuji. Now however, she was given the explicit order to stay behind in Hyakuji High to finish her studies and live her own life, as well as being the acting guardian for Seth's younger sister until she graduates.

If needed however, as Seth's final trump card, he can call for her to his side, and the half-phantom will be with him. The kind of bond shared between the two are capable of breaking through any kind of barriers and closing any gaps, be them magical or physical, traversing through any distance of space or even period of time. The summoning can also be done the other way around by his will, though Seth is not the kind of person to run away.

There is a shared relic between the two that Seth is free to utilize as his own. Originally belonging to Youma herself, are two swords of spiritual origin. Rather than being actual swords, they are simply physical manifestation of what little she could recollect of her past, forged into existence purely using her soul.

The Lunatic Watcher Sword, and The Bamboo Forest Sword. Both of which have their own unique property, while also sharing common traits.

The Lunatic Watcher Sword, is a sword capable of cutting through magics, enchantments, illusions and curses. It is a sword that requires finesse to utilize it's ability to the fullest. An empty mind, a deep breath, and a draw. With nothing more than that, the blade will dispell falsity and carve out the pure truth of the world.

The Bamboo Forest Sword is a sword of pure power. The sheer amount of spiritual energy collected and compressed within this one sword causes it to have an extremely massive spiritual presence and pressure. Only those with powerful spirit would be able to wield it, and it's said to be capable of rending even the strongest of souls in half with its blade.

Despite being made purely of her soul, their's manifestation is as true to reality as a sword could be, and they are capable of directly harming souls just as they are at cutting through flesh and bones. Their strength, sharpness and durability are highly dependent on the mentality and willpower of the user. By will, the two swords can also be made to become completely ethereal, robbing it entirely of its ability to physically harm anything or anyone, but magnifies its ability to affect supernatural entities by many magnitudes.

While the swords may be virtually flawless, it only stays as such for as long as the user's will could keep it so. A weakened spirit will result in weakened swords, blunting their edges and brittling their blades. They can be materialized however many times the user wishes, but only if they still have the spirit to do so.

One thing to note, is that the swords are not meant to be used in Seth's hand. More often than not, using the swords in conjunction with his strength results in the swords being unable to handle the stress of his strength, breaking whenever he lands a strike on anything.

The two swords being a shared relic between Youma and Seth simply means that Seth himself can bring the swords to his side whenever he wishes, without needing Youma as the catalyst.

Equipment:
A small worn-out fedora: An aged looking fedora that's actually a bit small for him. Used to belong to someone else.
WDA Master Key: A key given to him by Jameson B. Willicott that grants him access to everything in the WDA Tower back in Hyakuji City. Not exactly useful when he's not there in the first place. Stuff there includes a luxury loft, three floors of rooms repurposed as an apartment, a ground floor lobby/living room with a kitchen connected to the back, and a basement that is out-of-bounds for anyone except himself and his closest friends.
WDA Basement: The WDA basement, located at the WDA Tower in Hyakuji up north of Japan, houses a small armory loaded with weapons of every various type imaginable, from less-lethal weaponry to firearms and explosives. It also houses a massive supercomputer once used by a prodigy psychic genius, with a database full of information on various high profile criminals and crime cases solved by the previous owner of the WDA Tower. None of which have actually been touched or maintained by anyone for over a few years, and has so far been left forgotten to collect dust.
Bakers Expense Card: An expense card given to him by Jameson B. Willicott. Likely deprecated as it hasn't been used in over a few years.
Anything that belongs to Youma: What's hers belongs to him

Powers and Abilities:

Hidden In Your Heart ~ Soul of Drifter
It's easy to say that he is naught but a normal person on the outside. But there is a reason as to why he is still living despite having a Metavirus inside him that should have killed him seven years ago. Why the aforementioned Metavirus gained it's own conscience, ultimately becoming a second personality... life, residing inside him, even becoming the single most deadly weapon he could wield with his bare hand. Why he is capable of actually utilizing Kotoka Youma's own abilities as his own, able to call the half-phantom to his side whenever and wherever he wishes to, and able to bring himself to her side without any restriction whatsoever.

All this is because of his soul.

The composition of Seth's soul is... not normal. It's not something that can be easily detected or seen by anyone or any conventional means. In fact, not even Seth himself seemed to realize this, but his soul is... dynamic, may be the best word for it. It's adaptive, receptive to outside changes... very much so to the point it could physically manifest itself into things no one would expect.

Just to note though, he has no way of directly utilizing it for his own benefit. Not to mention having no actual knowledge of this latent ability. So far everything that has happened that involved this abnormality of his soul were entirely spontaneous. To put it simply, this power requires a catalyst, anything for... well, to do anything, really. Without them... it's just an empty meaningless soul of Seth Ryouga.

...Oh, did I mention he sold his soul to a certain Demon God of Wind Pazuzu?

Metavirus V ~ I Trust Him More Than Anyone Else
The ultimate artificial biological creation initially designed to be a silent viral killer with multi-functional properties... except it was discreetly modified to deal with something more. To draw out the 'great untapped potential' of a human being. Various randomly selected subjects have had the Metavirus tested on them to terrible failures with fatal ends... Except for one: Seth Ryouga, whom, curiously enough, still survived until this very day despite everything that was said about his inevitable quick death.

Finally, we can explain why.

Thanks to the Metavirus' ability to draw out the 'untapped potential' of human being interacting with the anomaly of his soul, somehow, one way or another, the moment the Metavirus entered his system, a new conscience was born inside him. A mind very much separate from his own, capable of performing it's own judgement and experience feelings and emotion... effectively that of a second personality, a second... person, inside him. Apparently related to the Metavirus inside him, this 'second personality' gave itself a name... V.

The active conscience of V himself overrode the Metavirus' programmed function, and, quite literally by sheer willpower, took control of all the Metavirus' biological function down to cellular level to the point that Seth is capable of utilizing the Metavirus for his own benefit via V. To put it simply, Metavirus V is capable of performing extremely complex job of altering and manipulating Seth's biological component to terrifyingly efficient degrees, resulting in an exponential increase in physical capability reaching the territory of a top-notch superhuman. In fact, barring the fact that this may sound a bit over his head, Seth himself has absolutely no problem claiming to be "The strongest fighter in the school,"

It's a bold claim, but not an empty one. Various events in the past have proved the inhuman extent of his power, surpassing even that of a good number of supernatural beings.

That's not the end of it. Remember how the Metavirus was originally designed with the intent to kill? The dark grim nature of the Metavirus manifested itself as an ability exclusive for V himself, a high resistance to any mental based assault, but especially effective against negativity-based psych.

...Of course, as powerful as he is... a human body is still a human body. Nothing comes for free. For such a great power, there is an equally great cost... A fatal one at that. Did I ever mention? At one point just a while back... V's soul had been gravely destroyed by Youma herself, leaving only a shreds of a now very volatile and dangerously unstable soul. Not to mention when it's mixed with Seth's own highly receptive soul it... changes him, whenever there is a strong surge of feelings, emotion or willpower from either of them. And not a good kind of change too, considering the somewhat dark nature of the Metavirus... And the fact that it only gets harder and harder to resist any changes does not help matter.

By the end of it all, Metavirus V was, and still is, a time bomb, just waiting for the right moment to destroy Seth Ryouga.

Half-Phantom Kotoka Youma ~ I Treasure Her More Than Anyone Else
When the two first met each other at the shrine, they were no more than simple acquaintances. An immortal half-phantom forever bound to the world, Seth Ryouga, under the tutelage of Selene Frostfire, had agreed to help her break free from her curse and return her back to a full human being. And as part of their lesson, Selene forced the two to perform a ritual that would form a Master-Servant Contract between Seth and Youma.

It was a small unintentional spark that formed a bond between two people far stronger than any other.

That one spark began a catalytic reaction with Seth's own highly adaptive soul, and over time, the Master-Servant Contract began to form a bond between the two, to the point where it became strong enough to even dissolve and replace the Contract itself.

The bond between the two gave a two-way benefit, as opposed to the Master-Servant Contract that only benefited Youma. The strong bond between the two allows Seth to summon the half-phantom Youma to his side, from wherever and whenever he wishes without any drawbacks, as well as summoning himself to her side at his call, ignoring any distance restriction between the two. In fact, it has even been demonstrated to be able to cross through different dimension and even a different timeline entirely.

And for something entirely new, Seth is now capable of directly summoning Youma's signature weapons, Hakurouken and Roukanken, for his own use without a need for Youma's proxy. Hakurouken, the White-Tower Sword, is a katana that is said to be able to dispel confusion and illusion by literally cutting through it. Roukanken, the Watchtower Sword, is a nodachi said to have been forged by the Youkais, and cannot be wielded by normal humans, mainly because of it's massive spiritual density.

Being weapons that are quite literally materialized from the soul of the user themselves, the swords main characteristic is their ability to directly harm and destroy souls, cutting through them as good as any flesh and bone. Their strength, sharpness and durability are highly dependent on the mentality and willpower of the user. While being very good at cutting things both physical and spiritual in nature, the swords can be willed to become purely ethereal, maximizing its innate destructive power (for as long as Seth wills it, reminder that it's highly dependent on his state of mind and will) against spiritual subjects or anything similar. At the same time, it renders the swords completely useless against anything of the physical plane. It's impossible for the swords to convert between the two phases while being in direct contact with other similar spiritual energy.

The swords, while usually can be considered virtually indestructible, does seem to be able to be broken under extreme pressure and stress, especially when Seth's own mental state is at stake. Naturally, reforming new ones would end up with a much weaker version, often an indirect result of Seth's dropping willpower, especially in a prolonged fight. Aside from that though, for as long as Seth can push himself, he can very easily dispel and resummon them as much as he wants.

Just... one small note though. As durable as Hakurouken and Roukanken may be, they tend to... not be able to handle the stress when being used alongside Seth's own raw titanic strength. More often than not, failure to regulate his own strength when using Hakurouken and Roukanken would break them. Usually happens whenever his emotions get the better of him.

Xiuying Zhuge ~ I Admire Her More Than Anyone Else
This... had a pretty sad backstory behind it. Xiuying Zhuge was a daughter from Shanghai of China whom transferred to Hyakuji High. She wasn't an ordinary girl, just like everyone else here. In her case, she has made a wish to a certain Witch of Dreams, and in exchange, gave her soul to the Witch, thus making her entire life a big empty existence.

She had a dream, and that was to become the greatest journalist in the world... ever. But with her soul no longer hers, and her life ended up amounting to nothing more than just a few years worth of empty pointless silly play, then what's the point of even living anymore?

She did not have that thought though. Not a single sign or trace of resignation and despair ever crossed her mind, not even once. Despite the prospect of her life burning out in just a few short years looming behind her, never once did she ever show a sign of weakness, never once did she ever decide life is meaningless. Instead, in her very own words, if she's going to have only a few years left to live, then she is going to make sure that every single second of it is filled with nothing but happiness and fulfillment! Nothing good will happen if she keeps despairing over an inevitability, so why worry in the first place?

It was then that Seth met her, learning about her situation while being separated by a veil in a confession booth hosted by the Newspaper Club created by Zhuge herself at the School's Festival. It was incredulous for him to actually find someone who is actually in the same boat as he is. But what's even more incredible was... how could someone as rude, imposing, annoyingly loud and cheerful as that Shanghai Girl... how did she manage to gain admiration from him?

It was simply her relentless determination, her undying will to continue living her life and the incredible strength she actually managed to muster to keep that bright sunshine of a smile on her face regardless of what's haunting her from behind. It was something that Seth himself had never been successful in doing, and it was something that garnered much respect and admiration from the young man. It was heart-wrenching when the time came that he would never see her smiling face ever again.

Xiuying Zhuge may have been completely wiped out of existence, but for all he cared about the Shanghai Girl still lives on in the Newspaper Bureau now run by a new person, and in his heart. Despite the short time they had known each other, she had left quite an impact on his soul. A strong, very powerful and unbroken resolve that will surface itself whenever he calls for it, a sense of solid conviction that will guide him to finish whatever task he had set himself to do, regardless of anything standing against him.

Equipment:
Aki's Fedora: An aged looking fedora that's actually a bit small for him.
Hakurouken and Roukanken: Hakurouken, the White-Tower Sword, is a katana that is said to be able to dispel confusion and illusion by literally cutting through it. Roukanken, the Watchtower Sword, is a nodachi said to have been forged by the Youkais, and cannot be wielded by normal humans, mainly because of it's massive spiritual density. Belongs to Youma, freely usable by him.
WDA Master Key: A key given to him by Jameson B. Willicott that grants him access to everything in the WDA Tower back in Hyakuji City. Not exactly useful when he's not there in the first place.
Bakers Expense Card: An expense card given to him by Jameson B. Willicott. Not really used much, but useful for when he needs a quick emergency cash.
Anything that belongs to Youma: What's hers belongs to him

There is a shared relic between the two that Seth is free to utilize as his own. Originally belonging to Youma herself, are two swords of spiritual origin. Rather than being actual swords, they are simply physical manifestation of what little she could recollect of her past, forged into existence purely using her soul.

The Lunatic Watcher Sword, and The Bamboo Forest Sword. Both of which have their own unique property, while also sharing common traits.

The Lunatic Watcher Sword, is a sword capable of cutting through illusions and dispelling confusion. It is a sword that requires finesse to utilize it's ability to the fullest. An empty mind, a deep breath, and a draw. Nothing more and nothing less, the blade itself will cleave out the truth in its path.

The Bamboo Forest Sword is a sword of pure power. The sheer amount of spiritual energy collected and compressed within this one sword causes it to have an extremely massive spiritual presence and pressure. Only those with powerful spirit would be able to wield it, and it's said to be capable of rending even the strongest of soul in half with its blade.

Despite being made purely of her soul, their's manifestation is as true to reality as a sword could be, and they are capable of directly harming souls just as they are at cutting through flesh and bones. Their strength, sharpness and durability are highly dependent on the mentality and willpower of the user. By will, the two swords can also be made to become completely ethereal, robbing it entirely of its ability to physically harm anything or anyone, but magnifies it's ability to affect supernatural entities by many magnitudes.

Bakers Expense Card: An expense card given to him by Jameson B. Willicott. Not really used much, but useful for when he needs a quick emergency cash.
Anything that belongs to Youma: What's hers belongs to him
